Haiku Challenge

Update 01.17 - the URL on the photo I had here doesn't exist anymore. Hmmm....so here's a new pic of the two.


When Jack returns I become a little obsessed. It's sad really, how a tv show can propel you through the day with absurd anticipation. Well, Jack can do that. I have to tape him (using the archaic art of VHS) because my kiddies aren't asleep before it starts. It makes the satisfaction of the day long anticipation that much farther away. But a true indulgence when I can finally sit down for the hour and veg. It's recording now, and I will join in for hours 3 and 4 of Jack's new day shortly. Until then, haiku away my friends. Haiku away.

Taking Time

For about three hours last night I sat with a friend and we created. We hand-made invitations for another friend's 40th birthday party. It was so relaxing, so soothing, so wonderful to use my hands to fashion something altogether new - something that had never been made before. The thought reminded me of a scene from the movie Garden State where the lead female character talks about doing something completely original that's never been done and can never be replicated in exactly the same way. A wonderfully refreshing and real movie.

We made a dozen cards, each one completely unique, with the only link among them being the birthday girl's initial of her first name. Of course the inside of each contained the same information. That would just be cruel to send each person to a different place at a different time, now wouldn't it?

It was a wonderful, wonderful evening. Because of how I spent it, but more so because of why I spent it. My friend's turning 40. I don't think she has any idea how special she is.

Waiting

I'm not a patient person. I guess then it goes without saying that I'm not very good at waiting. Though being patient doesn't always have to do with waiting for something, does it?

I've been having to do a lot of waiting lately. Which also means that there are currently a lot of things in my life that are very much out of my control. Which requires patience...and waiting.

Welcome Peanut

two thousand seven
ushers in a full new year
and avian friend

With the new year, we have adopted a new friend into our family. He is actually my son's Christmas present -- a parakeet (or budgie for those of you down under) named Peanut. I know, when Pepsi our hamster died a few months back I swore I'd never own another caged animal. But this seems different than a rodent somehow, and I though I'd give him a try. Plus, the top two things on my 9-year old's Christmas list were a Nano iPod and a parakeet. Without hesitation, the parakeet won out. So, here he is. And i must say, I am enjoying him quite a bit! He's a sweet little fellow.
