A Boogie or a Ciggie?

My bed-time conversation with my 10 year-old son went something like this tonight. Let's set the stage by saying that he's a nose-picker. I've made it clear that this is a disgusting thing to do in front of people, but it doesn't dissuade him in the least. Perhaps an intervention is needed, or so I thought...

L: picking his nose

Me: Bud, please stop picking your nose.

L: But I can't.

Me: It's gross...please don't do it in front of me.

L: It's a habit

Me: It's a bad habit

L: Well so is smoking. At least I'm not doing that.

Touche little buddy. I guess an intervention is not that necessary after all.

Oh by the way, I hope you aren't grossed out by navel picking...

I've been having the same problem w/my 13yo only it's spitting. Like as we are walking throught the grocery store parking lot he will spit and when I say stop, disgusting, bad manners etc. he says all men spit. It's true many do and everytime I see I am completely repulsed. He's getting better.

arm - yep, he really did. but booger picking in front of another is well, still gross.

grumblepicker - nope, you know i'm a fellow picker. i just would rather not be a vouyer-picker.

mary - ooh, yeah, spitting is one of those things that is a bit repulsive. i think it's location though. like if we're all out hiking and a man spits, it's not really a big deal. but you're right, a parking lot or other public place would make me feel the same way. glad he's getting better though!

Dont worry, once he figures out that girls (*not* Mom, sorry) dont like it, you will never see it again! Well, maybe YOU will lol, but not in public!

jake - i fear the days that he does things for a girl's approval. i'd rather him pick, pick away.

What a smart little guy! But, if you get him to start a smoking habit, then he won't have any ground to stand on and he won't be able to criticize smoking. And at that point you'll be able to get him to quit the nose-picking habit.

sebastien - hmmm. interesting point you have there, though i think i'd rather him not do either. picking or smoking that is. actually, i think i'd rather him pick his nose ;-)

Yes, you are probably right, him doing neither would be the best of all!
