Five Questions
The lovely Katie asked me these 5 questions:
1) You are an exercise machine - tell me about yourself....
I'd have to say dumb-bells. Enough said.
2) If you were describing your monsters, what would you have to say about them?
My monsters, huh? Some of them are dark and sneaky and hideous. They lurk in corners and pounce when I am at my weakest. They are insidious and manipulative. And there are some, far fewer, that are like sheep in wolves clothing. They look scary and wild, but if I'm patient and kind and dare to befriend them...they reciprocate.
3) Pete talks about the 7 stages of man, in your eyes, what are the seven stages of a woman?
This is a challenge for me, but I'll give it a shot. In all honesty, I don't know that I believe this mumbo-jumbo that i just let roll from my fingertips.
1. Infant - dependant and vulnerable
2. Child - imaginative and creative, investigating her world
3. Dreamer of possibilities - forming her dreams and longings as a young girl in the secret places of her heart.
4. Equalizer - determined to prove herself...as strong and valuable and worthy of wanting. Or in some cases, as equal to the male species. Dreams and longings are often tucked away here.
5. Contented - she stops proving and finds peace in who she is.
6. Princess - fully accepting herself and where she is in life, she is beautiful inside and out...she decides to relish in the present, letting unrealized dreams and desires go, which let her be truly free and unbound.
7. Child - being fully in the present, she can be who she was meant to be - unhindered.
If you believe any of that, please send payment using my paypal account.
4) Compare yourself to your favorite food... then compare an aspect of yourself to the food you dislike most and explain your choices.
I don't have one favorite food, so let's go with olives. Olives are zesty and pungent. Most people either love them or hate them. But like some other foods, they can also be an acquired taste. Sometimes they have a pit in the middle...which needs to be spit out...and other times they are stuffed with a little surprise.
I'm a big seafood lover, but when it comes to scallops. Ick. Scallops are somewhat gritty. I mean, they're a muscle from a mollusk. Not just any muscle, but the muscle that clamps the two halves of the shell together. But I digress...it's the grit that I dislike. In a way, I can be a little gritty, or abrasive if you will. I'm not afraid to say no or make my boundary clear. Some don't like that.
5) List 3 people that you admire from different medias (literature , movie , singer etc) and share with us their qualities that you admire most.
Terry Gross - she's the host of NPR's Fresh Air. I love her airy, soothing voice and her ability to gently interview a person with grace and dignity even while asking tough questions. I especially admire her for the research she has to do in order to know her interviewee, their history, their story, their situation, inside and out. She is a lover of people of art and of history. I would love to meet her some day.
Wayne Brady - okay, i know this is ridiculous, but I so admire his ability to be spontaneous. Plus, he cracks me up. When someone can make me laugh out loud, that's something to admire.
Keith Green - although he's no longer alive, he was a huge inspiration to me. I admire him for his immense musical and lyrical talent, but more so for his bold message which he shared through song, but also in his book, No Compromise. He lived what he believed. That's admirable.

Heh, great! Eveyone loves dumb-bells, they're so versatile! And good for you too. As far as the stages of a woman, well, as I know nothing of the non-male species (male either, now I come to think of it), but it SOUNDS pretty good? I have taken notes.
jake - love how you put a positive spin on my dumb-bells answer. see, an optimist at heart.
as for the stages of a woman...please, rip up the notes...quickly!
I enjoyed your answers GFM. I did smile and laugh and think beyond. It was lovely to read new facets of you. :)
Thanks for sharing!
katie - thanks for the great questions. i think i took so long to answer them because thinking outside of the box like that is a real challenge for me. but i thank you, because i was stretched.
I love Wayne Brady for the same reason. It's not easy to be so spontaneous. He may be lousy in the sack, but damn is he ever spontaneous. That's a true talent.
egan - and how exactly would you know this information about Wayne?
I have never tried to make friends with my monsters...maybe that is the way to go
nice answers
As they say on Chapelle's Show, "White people love Wayne Brady." I have no clue if you're white or not, but I saw that name and immediately thought of that quote!
I think I am currently entering stage 5 of being a woman. I was pretty much stuck in stage 4 for quite a few years and it was draining. I can't wait for stage 7!
I love it that you compared yourself to an olive! Seeing that I heart olives and all. But you're right - you either love them or you hate them and they are an acquired taste. I've often said that about myself sans the olive analogy.
I don't think of you as a dumbbell though... lol.. something more sleek.... like a glider.. or skis...
I find that interesting....
I did not know Wayne Brady - but since he's so terrible in the sack... lmao.. I dinna miss nothing! ;)
Then again.. I did not know the other two peeps either.. Where have I been?
Let's just say I met him on an elevator in Vancouver, BC once and leave it at that. Thanks.
I love love love Terry Gross! She's the best. She has a great voice, and she's very insightful... And Wayne Brady, I've never seen him, except his skit on the Chappelle show, which is just about as hilarious as hilarious gets (to me at least!).
Great questions, great answers.
pete - i probably wouldn't either, except for a recurrent dream i had all throughout childhood. i was a little girlhood in a woodland village playing with all the other children when an enormous, mean, giant stormed in. everyone was screaming and running, but i had the idea to befriend him. it worked. he made peace and joined our village as a kind and loving giant. the end.
arm - i know! i thought of you when i wrote about the olives. and yep, i'm a whitey.
i'm glad you find some truth in the stages that i pulled out of you know where. i guess to some degree i mirrored them to my own life. i think i'm moving from 4 to 5 as well. i look forward to when i stop looking to the past and stop wishing for dreams to be realized that were already dashed...and can just relish in the present.
katie - thanks! i don't think of myself as a dumb-bell either, but i just couldn't take that question seriously enough to think past that remark.
and that's ok that you don't know those peeps -- i probably wouldn't know most of the people others would have mentioned.
egan- will gladly leave that one alone.
seb - i knew you'd love terry gross since you are a Prairie Home Companion lover! and funny, i've never seen the chapelle show. i'll have to check it out.
my favorite is Who's Line is it Anyway? is all improv and ad-lib and hysterical.
Way too long, couldn't read it, but saw "Terry Gross" - thumbs up on that. I do enjoy her interviews. Well I did when I had a long enough commute to listen to them.
grumble - i know it was long. so sorry. but thanks for skimming :) yep, terry's a keeper!
Here's the Chappelle/Brady clip, it's a little long, lots of bad words, adult situations, so you are warned! But it's hilarious! in my opinion...

seb - thanks for the link. i'll be sure to check it out when the kids aren't in earshot!
