I Got My New Bike!

Yes, bike enthusiasts, family, and friends, the day has finally come. I have purchased my new road bike! This is a monumental moment that will be penned in my journal among the same pages that document my joys, fears, depression, children's poop and behavior issues, separation, dreams, and poetry.

I have been researching road bikes since August. I don't make decisions quickly and usually agonize over the finest details, especially when it comes to spending the big bucks. I have ridden half a dozen makes at three different bike shops. I have asked questions on the Bicycling.com forum. I have read reviews and more reviews. I have monitored eBay tirelessly to see what bikes are going for and on several occasions nearly put in a bid...but always chickened out. That ended up being a good decision, since my long torso and squat legs made fitting me for the right bike something like a newly invented yoga move. Truly, it was ridiculous.

The fall came and then the winter and I knew I wouldn't be riding outside in the bitter cold. So I stopped the frantic search and chose to wait for a good spring deal on last year's model. But I was still unsure of which bike I was gonna get. Sometimes after all the research, we end up just going with what we want in our hearts...and then waiting for it. I'm glad I waited. The bike came along and it has everything I wanted! I feel like a little kid who has just been handed one of those monster spiral rainbow lollipops. Except I'm not gonna lick my bike. I might kiss it though! Er, no. I'll just ride it.

And go clipless once I get a little more comfortable with her.

Hooooooooooooooooooooooooooorrrrayyyy!!! I'm so happy for you, the bike looks beautiful. And going clipless is the best (in my opinion), so that'll be cool when you get those too! So, from all those photos you put up before it looks way cold and seems like there's lots of snow where you live. You gonna brave it? Be careful of course.

I hope this new love in your life will be fruitful and full of adventure and happiness!

Bikes are one of the greatest inventions, and still so useful even in this day and age.

Sebastien said everything I wanted to. Clipless does make a huge difference, but take a few rides to get used to. You know... I might have some Shimano spd pedals you could have. I will check and see if I still have them.

This is very exciting news for you. I can't wait to hear all about it. I see you've got a bike computer on there already and those tires look fast too. It's great to know your patience paid off. Enjoy it.

Personally I'm not a fan of riding in the rain, but some riders just don't care.

Psstt... check your sentence after lollipop for a tiny typo. Have a great weekend. One more thing, is that an Ikea couch in the background?

seb - thank youuuuuuu! your excitement, and egan's, is making me even more excited!!! yes, so cold here, and somewhat icy. no, i won't be braving it just yet. i got a trainer so i can start riding right away, shed some pounds, and be ready to ride outside once it's warmer. thank you for the well wishes. i hope for all those things too!

egan - so sweet of you to offer the clipless pedals. the giant actually came with clipless shimanos, so i have them. when i'm ready, i just need to get the shoes. yes, computer a must. nice to know how far, how fast, how long.

Thank you for the typo correction! I really appreciate it. Liking and licking a bike are definitely not the same thing :)

We have two ikeas nearby, but no, it's not from ikea. strawbridges, believe it or not.

Congratulations! I myself just got a treadmill. I just don't like doing my run in extreme (that's what I call anything other than a perfect day) weather any more. Off we go.

mary - that's great! congrats! yeah, getting out there in the rain and the cold is just no fun at all. wouldn't it be great if every day were 70 degrees and blue skies?

Hi babe... I am so super super excited about this. Long time coming. You are a model for me on improving my impulsiveness. I have shoes for you, I think. When we hang this week (I hope) I hook you up sista.

big love (not the HBO polygamy kind)

tiger - yay! you're back! Hmmm, glad my procrastination can teach you something :) HA! Shoes? What type of shoes?

Can't wait to see you! xoxox

I will just ignore the Nutella and licking comments before my mind heads towards the gutter.

egan - tsk. tsk. though nutella is dangerous any which way you look at it. utterly, delightfully sinful!

Unbelievable! Awesome! You did it...and I am so incredibly excited for you!!! I can't wait to hear all about your first ride (outdoors). How's the trainer working out? I'm still hoping / planning to go that route myself. I guess I just need to make it happen. Anyway, yes, to answer your FRONT LOADER question, it really was me! Didn't know I could Haiku, did you? And I absolutely LOVE your new background and layout! Totally caught me by surprise :)
hugs to you
your one and only - true blood SISTA

Anyway you look or lick at it?

It just had to be typed.

That bike is rockin! 'Cept...when do they deliver the rest of the spokes? I think if i sat on it Id crush it like a bug!

Should be heaps of fun! Good to see you put so much time and research into it - its so important to get the right one, saves it ending up collecting spiders in the garage! (Cos who would lick it with spider webs o it??)

Oh, and I love the new look too!

Becky said...

egan - uh, wish i had typed it myself!

sista - yay! it truly is you. i'm so glad you decided to leave your mark here so i know you're visiting. the trainer is working out well. it feels smooth and is lots of fun! i'd rather ride for 60 minutes on it than walk on that freakin' treadmill one more time. though i was thankful for that thing for many years. i imagine it's like eating the same meal over and over and over again. all done. and glad you like the new look. i like to change it up once in a while :)

jakers - so good to have you back! um, if it were smeared with nutella, then you would just slide off it. and if the spider webs were on the nutella on the bike? well then i'd have to give it some serious consideration. the licking that is. but thankfully since i'll be riding and not storing it, hopefully it will not attract any arachnids for its home in the near future.

the spokes - funny how time changes things.
