Can You Say Kick Back?

I went to the doctor yesterday because of the headache I've had for over two weeks.

I left with four prescriptions.

Something's wrong with our health care system.

You really think something is wrong with our health care system because you got four prescriptions? Turn that frown upside down and think of all the choices you have. I think I'm talking out of my ass again.

Are you drinking enough water? Is your urine very pale or clear? Sometimes drugs simply address the symptoms.

That sucks! Headaches are truly horrible. I used to get horrible, almost daily, migraines and had about 4 different medications as well. Something changed, though (I'm not sure what), and I only get them once every couple of months. I hope you can figure out the trigger of these headaches!

egan - yes, really. it's the bandaid approach. i'm all for medication when necessary. i'll take an antibiotic for strep throat without batting an eye. but, i think i may visit a homeopathic doctor. he was incredibly helpful when my son "I" was getting ear infections. after one visit, he never got another one.

katie - funny part is that since i got my bike (about 4 weeks ago now) I've been exercising, drinking about a gallon of water a day, and eating much healthier.

arm - thank you much for the empathy. it really is terrible to wake up day after day with a headache. i'm so glad you don't get them daily anymore.

i went to a counselor for a bad marriage. he said everything was perfect. i said i was unhappy. i left with two prescriptions and was told to reconsider how bad i thought it was. you are right. it's fucked up. i'm remarried to an amazing man who would never profess perfection...just happiness. hang in there toots. i'll email you with some holistic remedies that my girlfriend uses. mwah. oh, and thanks for finding me.

Wow, that is really crazy about your son's ear infections. We do have a major problem with health care in our country, but the war abroad is much more important.

Sounds like you are doing the right things GFM! I need to get back into my workout... I'm a bit out of balance here!

One of the posts I started working on in my blog - Something to talk about addresses the fact that the BIG companies pay the Doctors off. They also keep us in the dark when it comes to possibilities of healthy alternatives.

Are you feeling any better yet?

chikken - strange calling you that after all this time :) wow, that does sound like some really messed up advice you were given. yes, i'm for medication when needed, but agree that it's not the answer for everything...definitely not happiness. so glad you and Tom found each other! and yes, send me the info!

egan - hey, your on vacation! but so glad you came to visit (warm fuzzy feeling inside). i think you're comparing apples to oranges here? hmmm.

katie - i wouldn't be surprised about the big companies and doctors. the medical community is brilliant and when you look into it you find that things out like that simple things like minerals and other natural things can have a better effect on your health than potential harmful meds (Vioxx, etc.)

And I'm way out of balance too! Since this headache won't quit...STILL...I can't seem to get motor-vated!

arm - you are so sweet to ask. in fact, no. i haven't started to med the doctor suggested i take first though. i'm sort of chicken when it comes to new meds because of all my allergies, so i like to do it on the weekend in case anything happens. Oi!

This is sooo frustrating! I wish your doctor had run some tests or something at least instead of just leaving you with a bunch of pills. Because who knows, allergy problems, shoot, I could list a million things that could possibly be causing this.

Maybe you could try acupuncture or massages or something of that nature.

seb - thanks for the understanding. yeah, it sort of surprised me too that no tests were run. i've been thinking for some time about switching doctors, this may have just pushed me to do that.

those are some good alternative ideas. thanks!

Holy cow! Get them all filled. I'll send you my address and some cash.

Seriously, doctors suck. I know that's a childish exaggeration. But in 32 years of life I've had very few positive things to say about any of the doctors I've seen.

Okay, my first ever doctor, who I saw for the first 25 years, was good. I guess nobody has lived up to his standard since.

The other day I went to my doctor for a 2:30 appointment. He saw me at 3:25. I mentioned this to him and he didn't even pretend to be sorry. Fuck him. Fuck them all.
So, I'm sticking to my childish generalizations.. doctors suck!

I'm sorry Bee. I hope you find a way to get rid of that headache. Headaches suck even more than doctors.

grumble - i think "grumblecomment" is a suitable cindra-ism here. i think doctors do some amazing things, but i too have not found one yet that has measured up to my childhood doctor experiences. it's just that in and out, you're a number thing. i'm sorry that you didn't get any response from your doc when he was so late. that's just awful...and unacceptable. Arg!

my headache is still here. it got the best of me yesterday and i was quite the cranky one. oi, my poor children.

Funny, I go with an ache or pain and they tell me its in my head. Something is wrong with our health system!

enemy of the republic - ugh. that's frustrating! maybe time for you to find a new doctor too?

I only have one question, did any of the pills work?
Hope you feel better! I hope you are not having a bad reaction to all that healthy working out..
Did you give up caffine recently, because that does cause headaches. Its withdrawal...hope you are soon on the mend!

Becky said...

pauline - thank you for asking! so sweet! well, the only pill i took was the antiobotic, which really had nothing to do with my headache.

no giving up of caffeine. and yes, it all may be a weird reaction to trying to get healthy. maybe my body just freaked!
